“I have learnt that if you have a passion or feeling to do something – just do it. Like me writing this book, what have you got to lose?” – Vicky Jones
Description
Vicky didn’t intend to write a book but it all came about when shortly after the birth of her son Harvey she suffered with severe post-natal depression. Desperate for any kind of release from all the feelings that were going round in my head Vicky decided to write an account of the ups and downs of day to day life. At worst she felt suicidal and totally alone and at best she felt barely able to deal with easy everyday chores and to function as a normal person. When things gradually began to get back to normal Vicky suffered again but this time with ante-natal Depression whilst pregnant with my daughter Grace.
Throughout this awful journey, which is by no means over, Vicky says she has found little help from the so called experts and has had to find it wherever I could. Vicky hopes that by sharing her experiences with others that have been through something similar she will help people to reason that there is light at the end of even the longest and darkest tunnels.

Vicky says she has learnt from her illnesses and now understands that you only live once and on days when you are wishing you had this and that, it doesn’t matter because your health is the most important thing. Her goal is to help as much as many people as she can who are suffering from depression. She wants to do this as she feels there is so much more to do to improve mental health research and information.
Book Extract
was blind to both antenatal and postnatal depression until I experienced both, but like most people unless you are diagnosed with an illness you just carry on with normal life and are oblivious to what can actually happen to people around you. I hesitated and debated on writing this book but in the end felt I had nothing to lose and I wanted and hoped it would help others who have been through the same or similar illness. Friends and family were surprised about how open I was in speaking about the illness. I didn’t even notice, I guess in a way it helped get it off my chest. Jokingly they said I should write a book, one friend said I would make a good counsellor, but one step at a time!
Another reason that helped me decide to write this book was having researched throughout my antenatal depression I realised how little research and information was available, even more so with antenatal depression, postnatal depression is slightly more recognized but only recently. I searched in all the obvious places such as library and internet etc and found the outcome quite frightening especially when in most of these depression cases people can get suicidal at some stage’s and may rely on these sources if they haven’t got much support from family and friends. I was suicidal with both my postnatal and antenatal depression more so but luckily I had 110 percent support from family and friends, especially people such as my mum, husband, in-laws and close others. If I didn’t have that I dread to think what I would have done to get through those desperate time’s. I think there need’s to be more out there, hopefully people will find my book helpful and comforting.
I can totally relate to other’s who have or has had depression and felt like killing themselves, it’s as if something is taking you over and making you think and feel this way ( Jekyll and Hyde type situation ). So for those of you who are at a very low level before you do anything have a read of my story and realise your not the only one and certainly not a freak which was one of the thing’s I labelled myself with at the time.
