About the Author
Born in 1973 Dawn Pritchard was brought up in Leeds. She has one younger sister. She now lives in Hertfordshire with Lesley, her partner of ten years. Dawn qualified as a Social Worker in July 2000. Following an overdose in 2001 she was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. Over the past ten years she has written a number of poems about her experiences, treatment, therapy, hospital admissions, suicide attempts, and periods of self-harm. She only ever shared a few of her poems with certain family and trusted professionals, as she never believed anyone else would understand or identify with it. Was she right?

What is this therapy?
Emotions, what the fuck are they
Floating through your head night and day
Waiting to pounce and trip you up
They take over your day, like a cloud of bad luck
Emotions apparently are different to thoughts
Don’t mix them up that’s how I got caught
I’ve been told that, just cos you thought it, don’t make it so
Got to keep emotions n thoughts separate whilst giving DBT a go
Mindfulness is the way forward, to inner peace and calm
A journey of discovery, a move away from self-harm
But what about the questions, that keep floating through my head
And the thoughts of going to the travel lodge, and seeing myself dead
Then we come to Marsha, with her bob and Deirdre Barlow specs!
Are you sure this woman’s genuine, did anyone do a CRB check?
I mean, one minute she says think of that, and the next think of this
I’m not a bloody robot, don’t take the piss
