About the Author
Nicky Wiper was born in 1957 in Northleach, Gloucestershire, but spent most of her formative years in Germany where her father worked as a teacher for the BFES. At the age of 11 she began to develop severely limiting anxieties, fears and phobias that caused problems for her both in social life and her family situation..
After leaving school at 18 she went to university to train as a teacher but was unable to complete the course due to her anxieties.
It was not until OCD was diagnosed when she was in her forties that she realized that a chemical imbalance was the cause of these fears.
It was at this point that she decided that she wanted to help children and young people experiencing mental health issues and therefore in 2004 she undertook a degree in Health and Social Care, followed by a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, and has now trained as a Play Therapist using her understanding of neuroscience, child development and creative mediums to support children.
She has a great compassion for children and young people with all types of mental illness and is passionate about developing creative supportive ideas for these children to help them manage their issues and experience fuller life.
