Description

This collection is selected from a series of poems started by Ben at age 24 and written over a period of 2 years. He wished to capture his feelings on life, shaped by reflective sadness, personal despair, nihilism, anger, love, regret and a longing for redemption. The lyrics were written between age 18 and 21. Some of the topics may be controversial, but he feels they adequately mirrored the mindset of a young and confused individual, clawing for hope in a time when the world was still shattered and cold.

About the Author

Born in 1985, Ben Power is still alive. He has written many poems over the years. Diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder in late adolescence, he finds it cathartic to chart his reflections on the world, and his personal memories. Aged 28, he continues to write, having left behind much of his past behind. This is most definitely a good thing. He has a degree in English Literature and now lectures the public on Mental Health and provides research articles addressing stigma. He composes and records music, having released 5 albums of bizarre, avant-garde Industrial, under some of the most unusual circumstances in the known universe. One day he hopes to actually dream up songs for everything in the vast collection of slightly morbid lyrics he has accumulated. He also keeps a hamster called Nibbles.

Rooted

The sun’s fist, twisting a greenness through bare
Stone, finds no melody in the sharp ground’s
Shape. The wet flesh of spring clawing new hair
Over an ancient doubt. This will confounds
Us, rhythms plucked from the same primal sounds
That dust the hedgerows with their splutter. Strange
With stirred regret, kites clip across the downs
All drawn here like mayflies as they exchange
Old light. And so time slips, without a single change.
