Description

An observation in words, themes around memory, lived experience, art, sound and listening. Identifying interesting and sometimes mysterious impressions of life experiences, and those in the realm or dreams, and imaginings. Some things in my life have had profound resonances with occasional psychosis, and the worldly environments these manifest within. This writing adopts a perspective that I think a visual artist would do so depicting a scene or subject, with the same sense of verve and inspiration. Flowing through memory, ideas, and adopting a free form approach, this work also functions as reference material for further ideas, and may also do so for the lay reader

About The Author

Andrew Locke is an artist working with varied and mostly time based media, and has been living with Schizophrenia since a diagnosis in 1997. A long road to recovery took him to graduate at University of the Arts London in 2009, with a 2:1, and go on further to achieve an MA and MRes, also at UAL. He has worked at Tate, The Barbican, and also as an art therapy assistant, all for much of his adult life.

He is currently exploring and developing personal moving image work, and is evolving his writing also. Inspired by electronic ambient music, a body of some unique and original work exists going back to the early 1990’s. A life long practise informed by sound, and this continues to set sail In ways still unrealised

Andrew has ambitions to study for a doctorate, and holds the notion that insight and lived experience of schizophrenia would place him in a valuable position to bring some elucidation to wider concerns in mental health recovery and understanding.
