A totally enthralling story, very well told.
This book should be compulsory reading for everyone involved in the field of mental health, but equally as fascinating to those of us who are not.

Mark captures the sheer hell of being mentally ill, in a very moving account of his personal experiences. More importantly than that though he reveals (past) inadequacies of "the system" when dealing with the mentally ill and the stigma attached to those who are so afflicted. One hopes "the system" and attitudes have improved recently, but I empathise with Mark very strongly with many of my own personal experiences and feel he has captured very well what life can be like for the mentally ill. At the same time though he shows that there is hope, and that despite severe illness great things can be achieved.

People who are Mentally ill should read this book.

People who are not Mentally ill need to read this book.

Representatives of "The System" (Mental Health services, DSS, etc.) absolutely must read this book !

Having personally met mark reading his story was all the more amazing, i have had similar experiance with mental health from a young age and marks book is the fist to articulate what i felt for all those years.

I fully reccomend this book to other suffers and those will loved ones who have problems

I also think that the so called mental health professionals should read this book because unfortunatly the way mark was let down by the system was the same for me some 15 years later

Overally an AMAZING read

I bought this book because I wanted to know more about what it is like to live with mental illness. I wanted to read a personal account rather than a text book. I picked the right book. Beautifully written, it is brutally honest, occassionally funny, often harrowing but above all it gives a facinating insight into the mind of mental illness. It has totally changed the way I view mental health. The author takes us through a very personal 10 year battle with an unpredictable and misunderstood illness and a support system that was at best farcical and at worst terrifying. Like a really good novel each chapter ends on a cliff hanger ' what happens next?' Thankfully there is a 'happy ending'. I could not put this book down and now want to read the sequal. ( unfortunately as yet there isn't one...hint hint.)
