At the age of 17 I was diagnosed with manic depression and like many I followed the traditional pathways of treatments and therapies, all with varying degrees of success (and failure), thankfully in 2001 I found a way out. In this book I am going to be sharing with you the 3 Laws and 21 Ways to Mental Health Empowerment.

I have developed an acrostic system to deliver these 21 rules and this starts with the phrase ’Mental Health Coaching’ ….

About the Author

Jason’s mission is to help people tell their stories and to break down the stigma attached to mental health.

Jason is the author of 10 books including ‘Curing Mental Illness,’ ‘Mental Health Raps’ and the critically acclaimed memoir ‘A Can of Madness’

He has created more than 10 home study courses available in eBook, DVD, Audiobook and Paperback formats including ‘How to Write a Book and Stop Procrastinating’ and ‘Unlimited Confidence’

Book Extract

I’ve written this book to give people with mental illness additional tools to improve their lives. As with anything in life how successful they are depends on how much action they take and what attitude they use whilst taking this action. They also need to take action that is relevant to consistently improving their mental wellbeing. If you want to be well then study how to be well.

I have been working with people with mental illness since the year 2000. Above everything else the ones that get better are the ones that have the right attitude. In order to achieve happiness and independence one needs to take 100% responsibility for the situation one is in in one’s life. Too many people with mental illness fail to see this truth and end up in a negative cycle of unnecessary pain.

My goal in this book/program is to give you the personal development, coaching and mentoring tools to dramatically transform your life; to take you to the next level of happiness and abundance no matter where you are at. Although, I am very passionate about personal development and coaching as my life has been greatly enhanced by them, I have big concerns about the coaching industry and its ‘gurus’. Often, clients are manipulated and brainwashed into thinking they need the next more advanced course, seminar or revolutionary approach or they will be missing out on so much inside that they will only be half of a person or empty in some way, shape or form.

This program is designed to inspire you and show you how to live the life of your dreams now. It makes you responsible for your own life and gives you some amazing techniques to reprogram your mind and life for you to be a happier you and a more useful person in society.

Have faith, be strong, vigilant, enjoy the ride and most of all focus on being happy now. In order to benefit from Mental Health Coaching you need to enjoy the journey along the way and not just the destination. The secret is that the destination is always evolving and so are you. Your mental health is either declining or improving every day. It never sits still so please join me and choose to improve it.

Preface

After I wrote my first book, “Survival: A Memoir in Dealing with Rape and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder”, I was compelled to write another thereafter. However, I was unsure of how to go about it. I started with writing about the second half of my life, but got nowhere. One day, I received an e-mail from Chipmunka Publishing saying that they needed home training courses that meet their criteria. Immediately, I was inspired because I knew that deep down this is what I wanted to do. Upon writing, everything came to me, and I enjoyed the writing process for this manuscript. Each chapter has a phase that I went through in order to become where I am today.

My goals in this endeavor were to give individuals practical steps in the healing process, especially a rape survivor. Everything that is written comes from my own life experience. This is because I desire to help the reader to grasp that it is a life-long process that could take years, but with encouragement from this book, one is able to become a success in life.
This means not letting the abuse control the person, but the individual taking control of his or her life. I had to work hard at making this a reality through much counseling and education. While I went through this journey, I learned a lot about myself and how to help others.

Here are some areas that I learned. The first consisted of that the world that deemed me as unfit to keep a job or remain in college; however, I was already emotionally stable in the midst of the misperception of me. For example, I grasped that I had to challenge others who thought otherwise in a professional manner, so that they could understand that I am not much different from them. Second, I knew that I was already self-aware, and I knew that I was sensitive due to my personality. This means that I could actually read others well, without them knowing it, and this included my environment and work culture.

Last, I knew that I was strong-willed and stubborn, but also open to new ideas with life in general. Many do struggle to understand me, but once they get to know me; this becomes easy for them to understand why I behave the way I do.
As you read through this book, I hope you are empowered to make similar changes in your life. If you are having issues after completing it, I highly recommend seeking additional help from a trained professional.

Using What’s Your Anger Type? and this Anger Management 101 Workbook you have everything you need to begin changing the anger management problems that you believe control you and hurt those around you. Beginning this moment, you can fix things!

The methods used are the same ones which have brought great success to those in one on one counseling, group therapy sessions, seminars, employee assistance programs, as well as those in court mandated programs.

About the Author

What Is Anger?

I have been asked on many occasions… Can anger be addictive? After working with individuals one on one in counselling and in groups, I would definitely have to say yes! In fact, in my book “What’s Your Anger Type?” I address one of the 12 types of anger I identify as “Addictive Anger”. There are people who get totally aroused, empowered and motivated by their anger. According to Hans Seyle, the creator of the “Fight or Flight” response phenomenon, people respond to adversity and emotions in one of two ways. They either run from it, or they stand up to it. If you keep standing up to conflict or seek it, you get aroused and release adrenaline. This hormone provides a rush almost like a stimulant or “upper”. After a while, some people get aroused by this feeling so much, they need it. You see it in sports where aggression is a requirement or a by-product for success (football, boxing, UFC, hockey). It’s their anger which moves them toward action.

I have found that clients with whom I have worked who possess this type of anger are bored and sometimes even depressed when they are not engaging in conflict or getting angry. I have had some clients with alcohol addictions or who like going drinking at bars on the weekend because they hope to get into fights. This provides them with both a sense of excitement and of power. Just as drugs provide someone with excitement and power, anger can become the same kind of stimulant.

There are so many different types of anger (I cite twelve in What’s Your Anger Type?) and many, many reasons why people develop them. There are also many different types of addictions and many, many reasons why people become addicted to substances. There is however an underlying basic root or component which manifests something as addictive and explains why the addiction is maintained. That root is low self-esteem. To some degree, we all go through bouts of doubt in ourselves and low self-esteem. Most of us find ways to adapt and modify our self-concept so we can feel good again.
